The Fiqh of Minorities: Muslims living in the west. Identity | Tradition | Rules and exceptions

* Does our situation require NEW RULES specifically for our situation? * Does our situation require a NEW INTERPRETATION of Islam? * Does it mean we can mould a NEW IDENTITY based on these changed rules and situations? * Or should we stick to past norms and traditions established centuries ago? * What happens when our Islamic tradition and practice CONFLICT with modern western identity, its economy and legal systems? Muslims living in the west today often find themselves in a difficult position. As an ummah, we have never before experienced the existence we find ourselves in today. It is a situation which * SPEAKER: Ustadh Rian Wiramihardja. Organised by: Hizb ut Tahrir Australia.

Tafsir of Surat al-Nisa’ Verse 141 “Allah will never allow the disbelivers…”

TAFSIR  OF  SURAT  AL-NISA’:141 { Allah will never allow the non-believers to have a way (sabil) over the believers } *** { Allah will never allow the non-believers to have a way (sabilan) over the believers  [Surat al-Nisa’:141]}…“and refers to the Day of Judgment if by “ sabil ” is meant ‘victory’ and ‘triumph’ or the present world if by “ sabil ” is meant ‘evidence’ and ‘proof’. Ibn `Atiyya said: the majority of the commentators say it refers to the Day of Judgment. Ibn al-`Arabi however said that this opinion was weak because the report in the verse would be redundant and that such an interpretation was based on thinking that the end part of the sentence refers back to the initial part, i.e. the part that reads { And Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment } which would be pointless and non-beneficial because it would just be a repetition of the same point. It is also said that Allah will not allow the non-believers to have a way over the believers to mean to

Tafsir of Surat al-Kafirun

TAFSIR of SURAT AL-KAFIRUN [1] Abbreviations: swt ( سبحانه و تعالى ). saw ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) as ( عليه السلام ). Context : The Meccan Arabs used to believe in Allah (swt) but had lost the significance of that name (hence making Him a dues otiosus ). [2] The Meccan Arabs knew of and acknowledged Allah (swt) and even claimed to be adhering to the original teaching of Ibrahim (as) but had incorporated Allah into a pantheon of deities (lesser ‘gods’ which were primarily al-Lat [3] , al-`Uzza [4]  and Manat [5] ). They even believed to be better guided than the Christians and Jews inhabiting Mecca and the surrounding localities who preached Jesus was the son of God whereas the Arabs believed that Angels and Jinn were His offspring. This was the paradox of their polytheism. When the Messenger of Allah (saw) presented Islam to them, they quarrelled and disputed with him on the premise that they were on the religious path set down of Ibrahim (as) and hence had no reas

The Benefits of Du`a’ (Supplication) by Shaykh `Ata’ Ibn Khalil Abu Rashta

The Benefits of  Du`a’  (‘Supplication’): A  Tafsir  of  surat  al-Baqara Verse 186 By Shaykh `Ata’ Ibn Khalil (Allah protect him) [1] Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an: { And when My servants ask you about Me, say: ‘I am near. I answer the prayers of the supplicant when he prays to Me. So they should listen to Me and believe in Me, that they may follow the right way.’ } [2] Commentary : ‘Here we should pause in order to mention certain matters related to  du`a’ [3]  so that it is clear in the mind of the supplicant when he supplicates to His Lord (glorified is He!): [1] Making  du`a’  is an action of ` ibada  and it is the “essence of worship” ( mukh al-`ibada ) based on Allah’s saying: { And your Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’ Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible }. [4]  Thus, Allah made  du`a’  an ` ibada  because he mentioned in the verse { my worship } after mentioning { call upon me }. And this is like the st

O Muslims! Do not accept a substitute to the Islamic banner and flag

The following is the translation of an Arabic leaflet.  بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم O Muslims! Do not accept a substitute to the Islamic banner and flag; Even though that kills the disbelieving colonialists in their rage! A number of flags and standards have come, and they are different in various Muslim countries, especially after the popular movements against the unjust tyrant rulers in Muslim countries. Some of them started raising the flag of "independence" or keep their existing flag, or raising their own flag... And from them are those who hold good hope about one flag or another and think that they do not violate the Shara' ... there are others who mislead people and frighten them from provocating the disbelieving west and their anger if they raise the banner of Islam ...! Some of them make an effort intentionally and deliberately to hoist a flag that violates the Shara' as an invitation to a Secular civil State...and so on. And in clarification a

Critique of Dr Tahir al-Qadiri's "The Islamic State"

The following is a detailed paper by a brother on this topic. Dr Muhammad Tahir al-Qadri, a Pakistani scholar and writer, is the founder of Minhaj al-Quran and the political party, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). In the Pakistani legislative elections of 2002, the party won 0.7% of the popular vote. [1] Qadri wrote an article in 2006, “The Islamic State”, where he argued Islam does not have a detailed system of political governance.  The notion of Caliphate he argued is little more than a concept and Western systems of Republicanism, unitary or federal, can be adopted. This critique examines Qadri’s argument that the Islamic political system accepts or is compatible with democracy and republicanism. It considers the two core arguments Qadri proposes to substantiate his assertion: Islamic political thought has never advocated a system of governance, and, Republicanism does not contradict Islam but is favoured by it. The critique also considers flaws in a number of premises
